Multi-target tracking is a process of dealing with measures which come from targets. It finds targets by processing measures obtained by sensors such as radar or sonar, then it estimates the dynamic state of the target. The results of target-tracking are confirmed tracks. In ideal situation, each track follows one target. In this case, they are called “real trajectories”. Some confirmed tracks follow none of the targets, they are called “false trajectories”. Measures form clutter is an important factor that affects performance of target tracking. How to distinguish target's observation from surveillance with high clutter density, and improve the accuracy of target tracking is a very important issue. In environment with high clutter density, traditional target tracking method (like IPDA) is prone to generate false trajectories, resulting in accuracy reduce of tracking results and greatly reducing the reliability of radar tracking results. This paper presents integrated tracking splitting (ITS) target tracking method, it reduces the occurrence of false trajectories by retaining historical tracks and forming a track component tree. With this multi-scan target tracking method, the performance of target tracking in track maintenance and false track discrimination is improved.
